Thats What Friends (and Family) Are For
Posted by Monica Edwards Categories: Alijah, Family, Personal
I am sure a great many of you have read Andru‘s blog post about our recent scare with our son Alijah‘s health. I could not decide if I wanted to post something about it because it seemed to strike a different emotional chord with me than it did Andru and I just did not know if I could share something that personal with everyone. I read Andru’s post about an hour ago and it is still playing over in my mind and though our own individual experiences with what happened are very similar, I know that I have something to share that is from a different perspective. I feel this great need to share with everyone how grateful I am for the support our friends and family poured out on us while we were waiting for answers from the doctors who were running the gamut of tests on Alijah.
I want to honor the people that surrounded us with their love and prayers through a scary moment in our lives. I appreciate all of you that prayed for our son due to Andru ability to Twitter something quickly as Alijah was being transported by ambulance, but this post goes to honor those people in our lives who were physically present for us, and sat with us for hours without us asking for them to be there. They just were.
Thankfully Alijah is perfectly healthy and back to his rambunctious self once more but it was a moment in my life that I won’t forget.
First I will start by emphasizing to all the parents out there who have never heard of a febrile seizure before that it is a terrifying sight to behold but that all the doctors and parents we encountered since it happened to Alijah say it is a common happening in children under 6 years old.
I first started out describing everything that happened that day in this post but decided that Andru pretty much laid it out on his blog, and the objective of my post is to publicly say how much I appreciate the friends and family in our lives. It is a wonderful, indescribable feeling to know that we are not alone when it really matters; so here is a heart-felt thank you to my sister Veronica and her husband Ben, who left work and high-tailed it to the hospital after my tearful phone call. Alijah loves his auntie and uncle so much that when he finally became aware of his surroundings, we were able to bring a smile to his face by saying that Uncle Ben and Aunt Ronnie were coming to see him.
To our dear friends, we love you all for coming to support us without question; Jesse and Brenda Ferguson, Nate True, Neil Estep and his girlfriend Sheri Cox, and last but not least, our Pastors Gary Curry and Steve Leddy who came to pray over our son. We are so fortunate to have so many special people around us and I personally believe that God places people in our lives who can take on the task of His angels and surround us when we need it the most. We are so greatly blessed and I cannot express how much it means to me to know that you all care about our son as if he were your own.
I am just sorry that it took me so long to express my gratitude publicly.
